In Aizawl District, the campaign held in Selling Community Hall yesterday was headed by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. C. Thanchhuma. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner asked the people to protect forests and resources in it for their benefit and to sustain new generations to come up in future. The meeting was also addressed by Aizawl North Sub Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Stephen Lalrinawma. He warned the people against careless burning of forest and informed them that anyone indulge in burning of forest will not be spared.
Lawngtlai District Development Vigilance Committee inspected development works done under Centrally Sponsor Scheme today and found that implementation of many schemes were not up to the mark. Our Lawngtlai Corr. reported that the District Development Vigilance Committee headed by Mr. V. Lallianzuala obtained prior information from the SPIOs under RTI Act and inspected various development works including Rastryia Sam Vikash Yojana (RSVY), Backward Region Grant Fund (BRGF), IAY and various development schemes under Agriculture Department. In some areas, they could not find the work done to commensurate the project and expenditure incurred as indicated in the informations obtained by RTI Act.

Tourism Minister, Mr. S. Hiato visited the proposed Multi Modal Project being taken up in South Mizoram under the Look East Policy of the Centre. Visiting Longmasu, the site selected for the base of Border Trade between India and Myanmar, the Minister inspected the site selected for construction of a grand tourist lodge at the cost of 300 lakh rupees. As PHE Minister, Mr. Hiato also inspected water supply schemes of many villages he visited on his way. He was accorded a warm welcome in all the villages he visited such as Kawlchaw, New Latawh, New Serkawr, Vahai, Laki, Khopai, Zawngling, Beimari, Longmasu, Theiri, Theiva, Maubawk and Zeropoint. He was accompanied by Saiha DC, Mr. Kunal, the Director of Tourism Department, Mr. Vabeiha Hlychho, PHE SE, Mr. HC Lalnunzira and officers of PWD, Power, PHE and other Departments. The PHE Minister has returned to Saiha this afternoon.

Zoram Taxi Drivers Association supported the petition submitted to High Court by Lalhlimpuia and 4 others. The petitioners asked the Court to quash the order on rotation plying of Taxis in Aizawl. In a press release, Zoram Taxi Drivers Association said, the petition was examined by the Taxi Drivers Association leaders yesterday and held that the Section 115 of Motor Vehicle Act 1988 was wrongly exercised by the State Transport Department.

Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. K.S Thanga laid the foundation stone of Sialsuk YMA pond today. When completed the YMA pond will measure 180 metres in length and 80 metres in breadth with a dept of 30 feet. Addressing the function held in this connection at Sialsuk YMA Library, the Parliamentary Secretary said, under the leadership of Mr. Lal Thanhawla, the Government is trying to develop Sialsuk village to regain its fame and popularity in the history of Mizoram.

Zoram Nationalist Party Youths asked the Government to distribute cash and material assistance to the beneficiaries under NLUP before the 15th of this month. Passing a resolution in the Office Bearers meeting held yesterday, the ZNP youth said, non compliance of NLUP manual will cause failure to the beneficiaries who need timely assistance in cash and materials. Referring to the problems being faced by the beneficiaries under Agriculture, Horticulture and Soil & Water Conservation Departments, the ZNP youth said, these beneficiaries are likely to face serious problem as the time for clearing the forest and the sowing season is to be over in a few months. In the same resolution, the ZNP youth also asked the Government to delete the section in Public Demand Recovery Act 2001 which will be applied to unsuccessful beneficiaries for recovery of assistance received by them.

Today, the maximum temperature of Aizawl City was 24.9 and the minimum was 11.1 degree Celsius. Weather forecast valid for tomorrow indicated bright sunshine and the temperature is likely to swing between the maximum of 27 to the minimum of 12 degree Celsius.
