Zo Re-Unification Organization (ZORO) passed a resolution calling for taking concrete steps towards creation of single administrative unit for all Mizo tribes scattered in India, Myanmar and Bangladesh. This resolution was passed at a convention held in Information Department’s Auditorium yesterday on the occasion of 118th anniversary of Chin-Lushai Conference. Addressing the convention, ZNP President, Mr. Lalduhoma thanked the ZORO leaders and expressed whole hearted support to the move spearheaded by the organization. He also said that reunification of Mizo tribes under one administrative unit is the main policy of the Party. Those who addressed the convention included Mr. KL Lianchia of MPC, Mr. Hrangthanga Colney and Mr. B. Sanghnuna of Congress, Mr. Lalthankunga of MNF and MZP President, Mr. VL Krosshnehzova. Most of the speakers expressed their hope that the objective of ZORO can be achieved within the framework of Article 36 of UN Declaration 2007.

Mizoram State Law Commission is contemplating a legislation to punish those beneficiaries of NLUP who misuse assistance received from the Government. This was discussed in the meeting held in Aizawl yesterday under the chairmanship of the Commission Chairman, Mr. R. Lalrinawma, MLA. The meeting also discussed The Court Fee (Mizoram Amendment) Act 1996, The Indian Registration Act and The Indian Stamp Mizoram (Amendment) Act with a view to incorporate amendments to check rampant piracy of compact disc and video compact disc.

Lalhuapliana of Vairengte was forcibly taken and handed over to Lala Police Station by a group of persons belonging to Hailakandi District. According to Kolasib Police sources, Lalhuapliana and his two friends collected broom sticks in Aitlang forest area last Saturday and encountered with a group of people from the neihgbouring State who claims that the area falls within Assam. While the altercation was going on his two friends run away and he was apprehended by the group and handed over to Assam Police in Lala Police Station. He was also accused of possessing unlicensed gun. Meanwhile Mizoram Police and his relatives are trying to secure his release on bail.

Serchhip District MJA passed a resolution demanding 50 percent of advertisement fund for utilization by the news papers published in the District and Sub Divisional Hqrs. This resolution was passed at the Annual Conference of the District MJA in Serchhip yesterday. In another resolution, the District MJA also asked the Government to repair the roads within the town on priority basis. Addressing the function, the President of Indian Society on Tobacco and Health, Mizoram Chapter, Mrs. Lalriliani highlighted the bad effect of tobacco and its products to human beings. She also advised the people to avoid use of tobacco and its product to avoid cancer and other health problems prevalent among smokers including heart disease. The Conference was also addressed by the Information & Public Relations Director, Mr. Jim K. Chozah and MJA Treasurer, Mr. Lalzamlova.

Samaritan Riangvaite Run in Selling celebrated its 18th raising day today. Addressing the function held in this connection, the Synod Executive Secretary in-charge of Social Front, Rev. Lalzuithanga described the role played by the Home Father, Mr. KT Khawla as selfless service for the needy poor and disabled persons. Comparing his service with that of Mother Teresa, Rev. Lalzuithanga said, the reward will be received from above and not from this world. The inmates of the Home also displayed their talents for entertainment of the participants.

The proposal for creation of 2 more constituencies in Lai Autonomous District Council is opposed in certain quarters. The proposed creation of Sangau East constituency by bifurcating Sangau constituency into Sangau East and Sangau West is opposed by the people of Sangau-I and Pangkhua. In their recent protest rally, the people of Pangkhua raised objections to the proposed amulgamation of their village and Ramhlun locality in Sangau-I to form a new constituency to be known as Sangau East. In a press release issued in Lawngtlai today, the leader of Pangkhua said, the people of the village are not willing to lose Pangkhaw constituency which has been a household name among them since 1972. Meanwhile the people of Sangau-I also objected the proposal and claim that Ramhlun locality in Sangau-I is the original Sangau village which should not be disturbed. Launching a signature campaign, the Village leaders submitted 194 names of the heads of the family to the Delimitation Commission to support their objection to the proposed bifurcation of Sangau village. It may be recalled that the Delimitation Commission has been constituted by the Government in November last year for creation of two more constituencies in Lai Autonomous District Council. The Commission is headed by the Deputy Commissioner and the members are representatives of all the major political parties. Presently, LADC has 23 elected seats and 4 nominated seats.

According to Vairengte Police sources, the colour of the Pulsar Bike is red bearing registration No. MZ-05-2347. The claimant may contact the Officer-in-charge of Vairengte Police Station.

Falk^wn Branch YMA and 5th IR Battalion donated 49 units of blood for patients in Aizawl Civil Hospital. Of the blood donors, 18 are the members of Falkawn Branch YMA and the rest 31 are from the 5th IR Battalion presently camping in Falkawn Referral Hospital complex. The blood was drawn by the Blood Bank Officials in the Referral Hospital.

Gauhati High Court, Aizawl Bench admitted the petition submitted by Zoram Taxi Drivers Association and Taxi Owners -cum-Drivers in protest against Rotation Plying of Taxis in Aizawl City. In a Press Release Zoram Taxi Drivers Association said, the petition was admitted by the Court yesterday after a preliminary hearing. The Court also serve Show Cause Notice to the Govt. of Mizoram, Home and Transport Secretaries, Traffic Management Committee, SP Traffic and the concerned aggrieved parties. The press release also indicated that the State Government and all the involved Departments are to submit their replies to the Show cause Notice to the Court within three weeks.

Chief Information Commissioner Mr Robert Hrangdawla said, all the 59 appeal cases received by the Commission since its inception in 2006 have been settled. Giving this information to the reporters in a crowded Press Conference held in Aizawl yesterday, the Chief Information Commissioner said, this could be a record achievement as compared to the performance of Information Commission of other States. Expressing regret over less number of appeal cases received by the Commission during the last three and half years the Chief Information Commissioner said, the reason can be attributed to in-adequate awareness of the Commission, its function and the procedure of furnishing informations by SPIO of Government Departments. He also regretted the Government’s apparent lack of interest and cited an instance in 2007 in which the Government abruptly cancelled training programme of SPIO and Appellate Authorities in Govt. Departments. Praising 107 Offices which completed RTI Act Manual he also requested other Department and Offices to take up task which is mandatory. The C.I.C. Mr. Robert Hrangdawla is due to retire on the 2nd February, this year on attainment of 65 years of age.

Inter Media Publicity Cor-ordination Committee selected ‘ prevention of fire ‘ for its campaign theme for February. This theme was selected in the IMPCC meeting held yesterday in the Conference Hall of AIR Aizawl Station which was chaired by the IMPCC Chairman Mr. C. Lalrosanga. The meeting also chalked out Multi-Media- Publicity Campaign Programme to be launched from 23rd to 25th February covering Khawzawl, Khawhai and Biate.

Road Transporters in Lunglei District have called off their agitation from yesterday. The agitation was launched in protest against bad road condition between Lunglei and Zobawk. An agreement to this effect was signed in Lunglei yesterday after the joint meeting which was attended by Taxi and Auto Rickshaw Owners Association, the Sector Commanding Officer of BRTF Colonel K.N. Sahu and the Superintending Engineer of PWD Mr. C.Liantluanga. In the meeting, the Road Transporters were assured that resurfacing work of the Road will be taken up as soon the on going process of handing over of the road to the State PWD is completed.

Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister, Mr H.Rohluna said, 3 more Gas Agents will soon start functioning to augment the much needed supply of Gas to the State. Addressing the weekly Party Workers’ Political Session held in the Congress Bhavan yesterday, the Supply Minister said, the new Gas Agents will function in Khatla, Luangmual and Seling.He also said, the Gas bottling plant in Mualkhang is being strengthened to dauble its bottling capacity. Referring to wide spread devastation of the forests the loss of lives because of fire last year, he asked the people to prevent forest fire during the current dry season.

The Parliament Secretary incharge of Agriculture Mr. K.S. Thanga distributed 16 Power Tillers to selected farmers of Lawngtlai District last Thursday. This was a prelude to the NLUP, the flagship Policy of the Congress Government. Addressing the function held in Dokulha Hall, the Parliamentary Secretary asked the people to extend whole hearted cooperation to the Government for successful implementation of all the development programmes. The Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Zothangliana also addressed the gathering and asked the farmers in Lawngtlai District to put forth their sincere effort to increase food production in the District. Under this Scheme the farmers have to bear only 25 percent of the cost and the rest 75 percent was the subsidy borne by the Government. The function was president over by the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Thlamuana.
