January 18th, 2010 | by admin |Mizoram Police arrested two Bru rebels suspected to have involvement in the brutal killing of Zarzokima of Bungthuam village on 13th November last year. Disclosing this to the reporters in his office today, the Home Minister, Mr. R. Lalzirliana said that the two persons arrested yesterday by Mizoram Police in Tripura border area are Self Style Lieutenant, Vanlalfela of Tuirum village and Self Style Corporal Chusarai of Tuipuibari Centre. The Home Minister also said that they have confessed their involvement in the gruesome killing of Zarzokima and many other incidents in the past and their connection with a number of militant outfits in the North East region including Dima Halam Douga. The Special Investigation Team also seized receipt book used for collection of donation which bears the letter head of Bru Re-Unification Union (BRU). The Home Minister told the reporters that self styled Lieutenant Vanlalfela has been one of the hardcore members of the BNLF who have not surrendered to the Government so far. His involvement in various crimes included killing of Wildlife Game Watcher, Lalzawmliana in 1997, burning of MST Bus in Chikha in 1998 and firing upon innocent persons near Tuipanglui. The Home Minister also said, the two rebels arrested have informed the Police that the incident on the 13th of November last year was to create law and order problem before the start of the process of repatriation of the Bru refugees.
Meanwhile Bairabi Police also arrested 4 Bru rebels allegedly involved in extortion during the last week. According to Bairabi Police sources, Joseph Lalnuntluanga of Azasora Refugee Camp and Mothoram of Hamsapara Refugee Camp were arrested at South Chhimluang yesterday. Earlier on Wednesday the Police also arrested two more persons near Meidum village with incriminating documents. These are Laldinpuia and Tudumi Riang of Naisingpara Camp. The Police recovered 16 thousand rupees from them which are collected by them from the Bru families in Chhimluang village. The Police have registered a case against them in Bairabi Police Station and they are sent to Kolasib District Jail yesterday after production before the Magistrate. The Police also said that all the four arrested persons were the remnant of BLFM who have not surrendered to the Government.

A house completely gutted by fire in Champhai Vengsang Saturday night was reconstructed by the people today. The VCP, Mr. JC Lalhuzama told our Corr. that the reconstruction work was started today by the volunteers with donation from the public and the staff of various Government Departments. Our Champhai Corr. reported that the House belonged to Lalsangzuali, who won gold medal in welter weight in the last National Teakwood Championship.

State Level KVI Handloom and Handicraft exhibition begins in Serchhip Town Hall today. Inaugurating the exhibition, the KVI Board Chairman, Mr. K. Lianzuala said, due importance is given to KVI for fulfillment of the dream of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi who belief that development and creation of sustainable occupation for the rural community can be achieved by encouraging Khadi and Village Industries. The KVI Chief Executive Officer, Mr.K. Lalsawmzuala also explained the procedure for obtaining loans from KVI and various schemes available under the KVI. The exhibition organized by the KVI Board is to continue till Saturday.

One 407 Truck ran out of the road and fell into a deep gorge between Bawngkawn and Thuampui yesterday morning. Luckily, no one was killed in the accident. The handyman who drove the vehicle was seriously injured and admitted to Aizawl Civil Hospital.

A Mini Passport office, Passport Seva Kendra is to be opened in Aizawl shortly. This was disclosed by the Chief Passport Officer, Mr. A. Manickam today in the meeting held in the office of the Chief Secretary, Mr. Vanhela Pachuau. He also asked assistance and support of the State Government to open the new office. In replied to his request, the Chief Secretary assured him of all possible help from the State Government. In this meeting, the Chief Secretary was accompanied by the Home Commissioner, Mr. Lalmalsawma, the DGP, Mr. Lalrokhuma Pachuau and other senior officers. The Chief Passport Officer was also assisted by other officers in the Ministry of External Affairs and the Regional Passport Officer, Mr. T. Amstrong Changsan.

The Planning and Development Committee Vice Chairman of Lai Autonomous District Council, Mr. Hmunhre said, construction of 460 megawatts Kolodyne Hydel Project Phase-II cannot be expedited as the CWC did not incorporate certain survey reports in the Detailed Project Report. Talking to media persons in Lawngtlai today, the Vice Chairman said, the CWC omitted crucial report on the condition of rocks in the proposed dyke area. Re-investigation of the same is going on now which is expected to be finished within 6 months. He also said that the Government of Mizoram has completed construction of truck road up to Saisihchhuah which has been selected for Border Trade Point between India and Myanmar in this sector. He also said, about 37 miles of Truct road is yet to be constructed in Myanmar site to connect the new township in Saisihchhuah. As the fund earmarked by Myanmar Government for this road is only 30 lakh rupees, the people of Myanmar who live in the area asked Lai District Council and the Government of India to take initiative in the construction of the road.

The State Level Task Force reviewed the programmes for construction of Railways between Bairabi and Sairang today. The meeting held in I&PR Conference Hall was chaired by the Task Force Chairman, Mr. Zasanga and attended by the Chief Engineer of Northern Frontier Railways, Mr. P. Shrivastava and Dy. Chief Engineer, Raju Das. The discussions included arrangement of security personnel for the Railway employees and the labourers engaged by them. The primary requirement listed out also included construction of accommodation for the workers and banning of passes and LSCs along the proposed railway lines.

Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight begins from today. Addressing the inaugural function held in Information Department’s Auditorium, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Mr. H. Rohluna underlined the need to conserve the depleting mineral oil and natural gas as the deposit is limited. He also advised the people to understand that oil and gas are imported from outside the state. Referring to the on going works for strengthening the Gas Bottling Plant in Mualkhang, the Minister said, the entire work is expected to be completed in April this year to double its capacity. The meeting was also addressed by the Supply Secretary, Mr. K. Riachho.

The Interim Bail petition of the former DGP, Mr. M. Tumsanga and the former Additional SP, Mr. H. Tlangkunga were forwarded by the Additional District and Sessions Court to the Designated Special Court set up under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Earlier, the Advocate of the accused, Mr. Michael Zothankhuma appeared before the Additional District and Session Judge, Mrs. Lucy Lalrinthari while the Public Prosecutor, Mr. AK Rokhum stood in the Court on behalf of the Government.

Mizoram Rural Bank has been approved to be the Member Lending Institution under Credit Guarantee for Micro and Small Enterprise. The approval was accorded today by the Government of India and SIDBI. A letter to this effect was handed over to the representative of Mizoram Rural Bank head office by the Deputy General Manager, Mr. Radakrishna. With this, Mizoram Rural Bank has been authorized to give loan up to 50 lakh rupees without mortgage.
