The former Home Minister, Mr. Tawnluia obtained interim anticipatory bail from the court of a Special Judge, Mr. T. Saikunga today. Our Corr. understands that the former Home Minister has taken anticipatory bail following arrest of the former DGP, Mr. M. Tumsanga and the former Additional SP, Mr. H. Tlangkunga by the ACB yesterday in connection with alleged violation of rules and corruptions in connection with procurement of materials under Police Modernization Scheme.

Transport Minister, Mr. P.C.Zoram Sangliana visited Hmangaihte Run in Zemabawk today and donated 5000 rupees for assistance to the Home. Talking to the children in the orphanage, the Minister asked them to pray to God regularly and live with hope to become good servant of God. The Minister was accompanied by MHIP leaders.

The fasting leaders of Centre of Indian Trade Union Mizoram continued their hunger strike till today. Talking to our Corr. the CITUM leaders said, they have decided to continue the hunger strike until the Chief Minister has a word of assurance to grant their demands. The CITUM leaders also said that they have sent a letter to the Chief Minister with a request to resolve their demands. The ZNP Vice President, Mr. K. Liantlianga, MLA visited the fasting CITUM leaders today and said, what they are demanding are their legal share.

The Excise and Narcotics Enforcement staff seized 45 bottles of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) in front of the District Court near DC office today. According to Excise Department sources, the liquor bottles were seized from white Scorpio bearing registration number MZ-04-3266 which was parked in front of the office. Suspecting persons who entered into it, the Excise Enforcement staff checked the vehicle and found the liquor bottles. After arrest, the driver of the Scorpio informed the Excise officers that the liquor was issued by the Excise Department. The Excise Department however refuted the allegations.

With 2 days left for the Christmas, preparation has reached a feverish pitch. New market and other markets in Aizawl continued to be crowded. The people could however move freely in the No Vehicle Zone from Chanmari to Zodin Square. A large number of persons were seen moving about including the youths who were strolling to enjoy the free open space. Meanwhile attendance Government offices also was thin today as many of the staff availed restricted holiday. Our Corr. in the District Hqrs. also reported that attendance in the District Hqrs. Offices were also thin as many of the staff left for their respective places today to celebrate Christmas with their dear-ones. According to official calendar, the Christmas holiday begins from tomorrow and the next working days for this year will be the 28th and 29th of this month.

In view of the coming Christmas and New Year, the Governor has granted varying remissions for the prisoners in various jails of the state. A notification to this effect was issued in Aizawl yesterday and those who are to serve jail term of over 1 year are to get 30 day remission, while those who are awarded jail term for less than one year will get 15 day remission. The remission applies only to those who have good conduct while serving their jail terms.

The Chief Minister, Mr. Lal Thanhawla has greeted the people of the State for the coming Christmas and New Year. Wishing them a merry Christmas and happy new year, the Chief Minister also asked them to receive the new born King for their own benefit.

The Security Committee constituted under the chairmanship of Aizawl District Magistrate, Mr. C. Thanchhuma has made elaborate arrangement for creation of conducive atmosphere for the coming Christmas and New Year. In a meeting held in his office today, the Security Committee reviewed arrangement made so far to enforce prohibition of crackers and other fire works. The Security Committee and their agents including the Police and Excise Enforcement staff have been instructed to ensure strict vigil against illegal activities including drugs and liquor. Dividing the entire city into 10 zones, the Magistrate and the Police patrol parties have been arranged for day and night patrolling. In this meeting, the District SP, Mr. Lalbiakthanga Khiangte informed the members that about 70 Police personnel continue their night patrolling since the first week of this month.

3 non-Mizo pick pockets were arrested by New Market office staff and Electric Veng VDP in the New Market today. The pick pockets are identified as Noor Udin, Ajaran Ali and Abdul Kalam, all of them from Patharkandi in Karimganj District. They were handed over to the Police Beat Office in the New Market for booking. Meanwhile loss of money reported to the New Market Office has gone up to 98 thousand 690 rupees. Of these, 4850 rupees have been recovered.
