December 16th, 2009 | by admin |The Chief Minister, Mr. Lal Thanhawla said, the accumulated debt during the previous ministry has hampered the pace of development. Inaugurating Boys Hockey Academy in Kawnpui yesterday, the Chief Minister said that the aim of the Government is to uplift the poor people and the Government is constantly in touch with the Centre in all the steps taken for development. He also said that the Congress Government will not assist corrupt and greedy persons. Referring to the past glory of India in hockey, the Chief Minister hoped that this can be revived with improvement of facilities and adopting the policy of Catch Them Young. The Youth Commission chairman, Mr. Hmingdailova Khiangte, MLA also addressed the function and thanked the Government for setting up the hockey academy in Tuirial constituency.
Mamit District administration is gearing up law and order machinery to ensure peace and order in the District particularly Tripura border areas during the coming Christmas celebration. Talking to our Corr. the District SP, Mr. Dingluaia said, several companies of Police deployed in the area continue their vigil and patrolling in their respective jurisdictions to prevent breach of peace and intimidation. Meanwhile the Special Investigation Team also continues its investigation into the brutal killing of innocent youth of Bungthuam village on the 13th of November by suspected Bru Revolutionary Union. No arrest is made so far in this connection.

To ease traffic congestion and movement of the public, Traffic Police continue their duties day and night. Our corr. reported that a number of violators traffic rules were apprehended and fined on the spot. However nothing was done to some Police officers who parked their vehicles in no parking zone in front of Millennium Centre. Parked Police vehicles were also seen in no parking zone near Dawrpui Presbyterian Church.

In preparation for the coming Christmas and New Year, all the Political party offices in Lunglei District Hqrs. have been closed. Our Lunglei Corr. reported that Political activities in the District have become calm with the closure of the party offices. Meanwhile only two or three local news papers are available today as the employees in the news paper have availed Christmas holiday.

The magnitude of the problem created by the dreaded disease HIV/AIDS was highlighted in the Church leaders meeting held today in Information Department’s Auditorium. Addressing the meeting, the Health Minister, Mr. Lalrinliana Sailo said, the activities of the Health Department is not sufficient to tackle the situation and asked the Church leaders to involve themselves in the drive against the dreaded disease. The meeting was also addressed by the Coordinator of UNODC, Mr. Kunal Kishore, who underlined the need for a concerted effort to control the fast spreading disease. The meeting, organized by MSACS and UNODC was presided over by the Chief Secretary, Mr. Vanhela Pachuau.

The Board of Visitors headed by Lunglei DC, Mrs. M. Zohmingthangi visited Lunglei District Jail today and enquired inmates about their problems. The Board also interacted with the inmates and asked them to start a new life by the end of their jail terms. Our Lunglei Corr. understands that 117 persons are presently lodged in the District Jail. Of them, 79 are under trial and 37 are convict including 2 persons serving their term for rigorous imprisonment.

The leaders of Centre of Indian Trade Union Mizoram continued hunger strike to press their demand for implementation of minimum wages recommended by State Level Committee on Minimum Wages Board. The hunger strike started on Monday in their office in Venghlui. Our Corr. who visited them was informed that there was no word from the Government so far to pacify them. Meanwhile Mizoram Rethei Movement also pledged support to CITUM and described their cause as genuine grievances.

Mizoram State Prohibition Council has made elaborate arrangement to gear up law enforcing machinery in view of the coming Christmas and New Year. A decision to this effect was taken in the State Prohibition Council meeting held in Aizawl today and as many mobile courts as possible will be set up in various locations to check vehicles and two wheelers. The Prohibition Council members will also work in close collaboration with NGOs and VDPs. They will also visit the volunteers on night duty on the night of 23rd December. The meeting was presided over by the Chief Secretary, Mr. Vanhela Pachuau.

The two day training on trauma counseling begun in Social Welfare Department’s Conference Hall today for Protection officers and Service providers. Addressing the trainees, Psychologist from Klagenfurt University, Australia, Dr. Barbara Preitler explained the technique of trauma counseling and the skills required by the service providers.

The 1st Solo Wildlife Cartoon Exhibition 2009 begun in Vanapa hall today. In his inaugural speech, the Chief Secretary, Mr. Vanhela Pachuau hoped that the cartoon exhibition, the first of its kind in Mizoram will have far reaching impression on the people of the State toward protection and preservation of wild life. The Solo Wildlife Cartoon Exhibition was organized by Association for Environmental Preservation (ASEP) and 140 pieces if cartoon exhibits were displayed in the exhibition.

Special Investigation Team has submitted charge sheets to the trail court against 9 accused in chiahpuam fake investment racket. Our Corr. understands that out of 17 cases registered so far in this connection, there are 3 Government Departments allegedly involved in the racket. It may be recalled that the total amount recovered so far by the Police has amounted to 25 crore, 49 lakh and 17 thousand rupees.

Vijay Diwas was celebrated this morning in the War Memorial at Treasury Square. The Governor, Lt. Gen. MM Lakhera took the lead in paying tribute to the gallant soldiers who have laid their lives for protection of the country in 1971 war with Pakistan. Those who paid floral tribute included the Chief Minister, Mr. Lal Thanhawla, the Home Minister, Mr. R.Lalzirliana, Capt. Rtd. Hmingdailova Khiangte, MLA, Lt.Col. Rtd ZS Zuala, MLA, the Chief Secretary, Mr. Vanhela Pachuau, the DGP, Mr. Lalrokhuma Pachuau and senior Army officers.

Fact Finding Team of Asian Centre for Human Rights visited Bungthuam village in Mamit District where Zarzokima was shot death by unidentified miscreants. The Fact Finding Team also visited some Bru villages and their camps in Tripura during the last week. In a press release issued yesterday from Agartala, the Fact Finding Team headed by Subhas Chakma expressed hope that the rift between the Mizos and the Bru people can be bridge by proper enforcement of law and order in the area.
