November 21st, 2009 | by admin |The situation in the western belt which witnessed violence and arson during the last 7 days has improved further with no more incidents reported in the area. The victims of arson presently lodged in Community Halls, Schools and Tents are being looked after by the Government and Churches. As reported earlier, the Deputy Commissioner has distributed 2 Silpaulines, 50 kgs of rice, 2 kgs of dal, 2 pieces of blankets and 5000 rupees to each victim family as immediate relief. Meanwhile the Police have confirmed the reported fleeing of all the families in Kolalian towards Tripura on the order of the Bru leaders. As stated earlier, leaders of the 3 voluntary organizations, Bru Cultural Organisation, Bru Students Association and Aizawl Bru Welfare Committee are currently touring villages in Mamit District where incident of arson took place recently. The Team headed by the President of Bru Cultural Organization, Mr. Biakthuama Malshoy met the Deupty Commissioner and SP of Mamit yesterday and informed them that their mission is to spread the message of peaceful coexistence and good will among different communities living in the area.
The Governor, Lt. Gen. MM Lakhera told the youths that they have equal responsibility for peace and development of the country. Addressing the youths of Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, who called on him in Raj Bhawan today in connection with their activities in the on going National Integration Camp in Aizawl, the Governor underlined the need to have mutual respect for religion and languages of different communities living in the country to strengthen unity and integration. The Governor also asked the youths to be aware of projects and developmental activities to be able to support it. The National Integration Camp is to conclude by next Tuesday and it is organized by Nehru Yuvak Kendra.

The new Presbyterian Church of Tuikhuahtlang, Aizawl was inaugurated by the Synod Moderator, Rev. H.
Lalchhanhima today. This was followed by worship service in the Church in which the Moderator dedicated the new Church to the service and Glory of God. The programmes also included responsive reading of scripture, Church choir dedicating hymns in praise of God. The service was presided over by Pastor J. Lalremsiama. Construction of the new Church commenced May 2007 and completed at the cost of 85 lakh rupees. The Church measures 2679 sq feet which can accommodate 595 persons. It also has a gallery measuring 266 sq feet which can accommodate some more persons.

Dholai Police have traced out the Auto-rickshaw used by armed miscreants who looted Saipum VC Vice President and his accompanions last Wednesday night. The Auto-Rickshaw was seized and the owner was arrested as the driver absconded. Meanwhile, the search for suspects continue and there is no further breakthrough in the investigation. As reported earlier, two persons rounded up by the Police are still in the Police custody for some more interrogation. It may be recalled that the Vice President of Saipum Village Council and 11 others were robbed by 5 masked men last Wednesday evening while they were proceeding to Saipum village and took away over 5 lakh, 89 thousand rupees from their possession.

As advanced celebration of the Silver Jubilee, members of Luangmual Pastorate KTP donated 32 units of blood for the patients in Aizawl Civil Hospital today. Their blood was drawn in Luangmual Vengthlang Church Centenary Hall. Some more Branches of the KTP in the same Pastorate will continue blood donation next Saturday for patients in Presbyterian Hospital, Durtlang.

Representatives of National AIDS Control Programme are currently touring Mizoram to review activities under Phase-III of National AIDS Control Programme. The Team also interacted with HIV/AIDS patients. In a meeting with the Chief Secretary, Mr. Vanhela Pachuau and MSACS leaders, the survey team expressed satisfaction with action taken by the Government and other agencies to control HIV/AIDS.

Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. KS Thanga visited villages in Champhai District recently and inspected construction of irrigation facilities by Minor Irrigation Department in various places including Vaphai and Champhai. He also addressed NLUP awareness campaign held in Khawzawl and asked the people to prepare themselves to utilize the assistance to be given to them in a productive way. He also graced the closing function of a football tournament organized by Champhai Football Association in Champhai yesterday.

Lunglei Police seized a large quantity of crackers, rockets and other fire works in Lunglei Chanmari this afternoon. According to Police sources, the crackers were seized from a shop in Lunglei Chanmari and the accused Sangmeni was also arrested in this connection. The crackers seized is estimated to be of the worth of over 50 thousand rupees in the local market. In this connection, a case has been registered against the accused in Lunglei Police station. Earlier, the District Magistrate of Lunglei District had issued an order banning possession, sale and use of crackers and other fire works including toy pistols.
