YMA has decided to discontinue its activity in connection with implementation of NLUP. A decision to this effect was taken in the Central Coordination Committee meeting held in Central YMA Office this afternoon under the chairmanship of the President, Mr. Lalchungnunga. Our Corr. understands that the Central YMA is likely to ask all the Branch Presidents who were appointed to act as the Secretaries in the village level to disassociate themselves with NLUP implementation activities. The Committee which reviewed the last General Conference in Darlawn expressed satisfaction and authorizes the Central Executive Committee to pursue all the decisions taken in the General Conference.

Champhai North Congress Block-I and Block-II special conference was held in Hnahlan Community Hall today. Addressing the party workers, Mr. TT Zothansanga, MLA asked the Party workers to cooperate the Government in its initiative to bring about good governance for the people. Reminding the party workers that the Government formed by the Congress is the mandate for good governance which will ensure peace, order and rule of law for all, he asked the Party workers not to indulge in high handedness and pursuit for their vested interest which may damage the image of the government. He also underlined the need for good cooperation among the party leaders, units and village councils. The conference was presided over by Champhai North Congress Block-II President, Mr. Thangromuana.

In a joint operation, Mizoram Police DSB, Special Narcotics Staff and BSF ‘G’ seized 49 grams of Heroin in Thuampui Bazar today. All the three accused arrested in this connection were Myanmar nationals. They are Hramchunga of Thantlang village, Vanbiaka of Farawn village and Hawihhnemi of Hriangkhan village. The Police registered cases against them in Aizawl Police Station under ND&PS Act 1985.

Free clinic was held today in Helen Lowry Higher Secondary School in Nisarihtlang today. Doctors from Adventist hospital headed by Dr. Rinpuii examined and treated 308 patients. The free clinic organized by Medical Laboratory Technology Department of Helen Lowry Higher Secondary School was also for popularization of MLT diploma course introduced in the School on the permission of the government.

20 Congress Party candidates of the Village Councils elections under Mara Autonomous District Council were declared elected unopposed today. The Local Administration Officer of MADC, Mr. P. Sama told our Corr. that the candidates elected unopposed are from 5 villages such as Tuisih, New Saiha West, Amepi, New Serkawr and Tisopi Old. Meanwhile the stage has been set for polling tomorrow in the remaining 72 Village Councils which will begin from 7 a.m and close at 4 in the afternoon. The Government has also declared the polling day as a closed holiday in the entire Saiha District to enable all the 33696 voters to exercise their franchise. No untoward incident is reported from any corner so far. As already stated, the Returning Office in each polling station are to take up counting just after the close of the polling and the result will be announced by them.

Mr. John Siamkunga, MLA visited villages in Tuipui South Constituency during the last 10 days. He was accorded warmed welcome in all the villages. Addressing the people, the MLA informed them that 33 KV Power Sub Station will be set up soon in Hnahthial and South Vanlaiphai for improvement of power supply in the constituency. He also informed them that the Government has included black topping Hnahthial-Thingsai road in the State PWD work schedule which will be taken up during the current financial year at the cost of 2300 lakh rupees. Highlighting the proposed developmental works to be taken up the Government, Mr. John Siamkunga said, District hospital and PWD Highway Division will be created in the constituency.

Along with the rest of the country, National Education Day was observed in Mizoram today. In this connection a function was organized by ICFAI University in Information Department’s Auditorium today. In his key note address, the Board of Governors of ICFAI University, Dr. LN Tluanga said, the aim of education is not only to pass examination but to create a person to be a productive asset for the community. In this function, selected students participated in elocution competition with a theme on ‘Education in Mizoram-Vision for 2020′. National Education Day is observed on the 121st birth anniversary of the first Education Minister of the country, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad.

Federation of Mizoram Trade Union (FOMTU) asked the Government to reinstate all the retrenched MR workers. In a resolution passed at the Federal Council meeting held in Aizawl today, FOMTU also asked the Government to enhance the wages of all the skilled and unskilled workers with effect from April this year. They also asked the Department officers to pay overtime allowance to MR workers who were engaged by them on government holidays. The meeting was presided over by the President, Mr. PB Lalsawmliana.

Mizoram Education Reforms Commission headed by former NCERT Director, Mr. AK Sharma is expected to submit its report to the Government within this financial year. Talking to ZONET Corr. the Member Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Esther Laruatkimi said, the Commission is working hard to complete the assigned duties within this year. She also said that the chairman and other members are to come to Mizoram in January to conduct on the spot studies in Southern Mizoram. In reply to another question, the member said, the Commission has had five sittings so far since it was constituted.

Inter Post Matric Football tournament cum sports without drugs kicks off in Lunglei today. In his inaugural speech, the MZP President, Mr. VL Krosshnehzova asked the students to face challenges in life without drugs. In this football tournament organized by MZP Lunglei, a number of students from Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools are participating.
